VILLAGES

Villages - Terms of Service

Version 1.1 - 9 October 2026. These terms cover the Villages web app and browser extension, the Villages connector for AI assistants, the Villages web pages (Share, Teams and your account) and villages.work. The privacy policy is part of them.

Written to be read. Where it says "we", that means Villages Networks Ltd, the UK company behind Villages, founded and run by Edward Ashton Johnson (AJ). Contact: aj@villages.work. By creating an account or using Villages you agree to these terms; if you do not agree, please do not use it.

What Villages is

Villages maps your real network from sources you choose to connect (your email, calendar, call recorder and LinkedIn export), keeps a distilled, private picture of who you know and what they are dealing with, answers questions about it, and, when you ask, helps you reach or introduce people. It is an early product run by one person. Features change often, and some are labelled as experimental; we say so where they are.

Your account

You need to be 18 or over. Sign-in is through WorkOS; keep the devices you sign in on secure and tell us at once if you think someone else has access. One person per account. You may add more than one email address to your account; each is verified before it is used.

Your data and the people in it

It stays yours. Everything Villages holds about you and your network belongs to you. You give us only the permission needed to run the service for you: to process it, store it in your private store, and show it to you and to whoever you explicitly choose to share something with. We never sell it, never advertise with it, and never use it to train AI models. You can download all of it or erase all of it yourself, at any time, from your account page.

Other people. Your network is made of people who did not sign up. Villages is built to keep only the minimum about them, never anything private about their lives, and never to combine what different users know about the same person; the privacy policy sets out the basis for this. In return you agree to use Villages the way a considerate person uses their own memory: for your real relationships, not to build profiles of strangers, not to import lists of people you do not know, and not to share anything about someone that they would not expect you to pass on. When you use the share rails, you are responsible for what you choose to send.

Your sources. You must have the right to connect a source. Connecting a work account may be governed by your employer's rules; that is between you and them. You may disconnect any source at any time.

What you may not do

Use Villages for anything unlawful, for harassment, for spam or unsolicited bulk outreach, to circumvent another service's terms, to probe or attack our systems, to resell or reverse engineer the service, or to feed it content you do not have the right to use. We may suspend an account that does any of these, with an explanation, and you may appeal by email.

Price and payment

Villages is free for individuals, with no trial and no card. Organisations pay $10 (US dollars) per user, per month, billed by Stripe. An organisation can cancel at any time from its account; the subscription then ends at the close of the period paid for and does not renew. Communities and Enterprise customers pay what we agree with them in writing. We may change the price with at least 30 days' notice by email; if you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before it takes effect. Statutory refund rights are not affected by anything here.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep Villages running and to fix problems quickly, but it is an early service and we do not promise uninterrupted availability. We may change or withdraw features. If we ever decide to close Villages we will give at least 60 days' notice and keep the export working until the end.

What we are responsible for

We are responsible for running the service with reasonable care and skill, for keeping your data as the privacy and security pages describe, and for anything the law does not let us exclude, including death or personal injury caused by our negligence and your statutory consumer rights. Beyond that, Villages is provided as it is: the suggestions it makes come from an AI model working from what your sources say, and they can be wrong. Decisions about who to contact, what to say and what to share remain yours. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you in any twelve-month period is limited to the amount you paid us in that period, and we are not liable for indirect losses such as lost business or lost opportunities.

Ending the agreement

You can end it at any time by erasing your account, which removes everything we hold. We can end it with 30 days' notice, or at once if you seriously breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (your data rights, our liability limits, governing law) do.

Changes to these terms

When we change them we will post the new version here with a new date and, for anything that reduces your rights, email you at least 14 days before it applies. Continuing to use Villages after that date means you accept the new version.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales, without affecting the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in.
